Too much rest for the weary (week 31)

As most of you know, I went to see Dr. K last week and my blood pressure was unusually high. She sent me straight to the labor and delivery department at Missouri Baptist for observation. After some time there, the pressure was back to normal so they sent me home with instructions to begin a 24 hour urine test in the morning and to stay off my feet.

I went to see Dr. K again on Monday, and the tests that she had performed showed that I was not showing any signs of preeclampsia which was a relief. However, the blood pressure is still high. She put me on some medication to help lower the blood pressure, and sent me home with the expectation that I will be on modified bed rest until Baby Wilson joins us.

We are headed back to the Wash U Women's Center tomorrow for an ultrasound to make sure that the baby is not feeling any negative effects of the high blood pressure.

We go back to see the Dr. on Monday, so we are hoping for a more reasonable blood pressure this time.

Meanwhile, I will be hanging out at the house laying around. I am able to work from home, which is a blessing since my maternity leave would begin right now otherwise. Every day I can work from home is another day I will get to spend with Baby Wilson after he is born.

Thanks to everyone that has been checking up on me and offering to help out, we really appreciate the sentiment.

Let's hope for some positive new tomorrow, at least we will get to see what Baby looks like these days.

And then there was a nursery!

With the majority of the kitchen project finished, we finally had time to focus on getting the nursery painted and furniture set up. Jason spent the weekend of 4/26 minus running 12 miles and a quick cardinals game with the Martin's painting the nursery. We made a last minute decision to go with a brown color instead of the cliche' blue, and we could not be more pleased. Here are some photos of our progress. We still have some decisions to make on final furniture placement and accents of course.

Shhh....It's a secret

Jason's family threw us a wonderful shower on April 19th. It was supposed to be a surprise for me but the family really needs to work on their acting skills, Jason being the worse actor of all time! We really appreciate the effort put forth to do something special for us and the baby, everything was just too cute. We brought home a car full of gifts that Baby Wilson is sure to make good use of. Thank you to everyone that came and made our day special, we enjoyed spending time with everyone. Special thanks to Chelsie, Lori, Missie, Wanda & Whitney for planning everything. It's finally all here! (Week 26)

Well, we got really lucky and our nursery furniture expected to be delivered in June came in the first week in March. It has been delivered to the house and has been sitting in the garage, since the baby's room is no where near ready for furniture. My bedding came in shortly after the furniture, and it very quickly went back to where it came from. Purchasing from the internet is always a crap shoot. The second set I selected arrived the next day and is just perfect, take a look. We have been working non-stop on the kitchen. Kitchen mission almost complete, moving on to baby's room!

As for the pregnancy, I have been feeling really great. I still have a ton of energy and I am not experiencing any discomfort. I have been taking a Yoga class each week which has been helping with the back and hip pain. Baby seems to get really excited during Yoga, it seems to be his most active part of the week. Makes it a little difficult to practice the "relaxation" part of Yoga, but what can you do. He is getting bigger and stronger, I can feel his arms and legs moving around. Jason actually felt him for the first time last week, well he felt him move and it felt like a lump of baby instead of my stomach moving which he had been explaining thus far. I am back to the Dr. next week, and I will get my papers to go for my blood sugar test. Awesome, I can't wait to drink orange goo.

Let the nesting begin!(Week 21)

It has been awhile since my last post, I think nesting may have taken time away from my blogging time. We have spent the last couple of weekends working on some projects around the house. We finally got our new kitchen cabinets delivered and installed, so now we are waiting on the new counter top(it will probably be 3 more weeks, sigh). We also purchased grown up furniture for our bedroom, so the 2nd floor has been a mess and will remain a mess until some poor sap volunteers to help move our old furniture to the basement.

Baby furniture, I must admit it is a lot harder to decide on than I thought. I have spent days trying to decide what to get, but I think I have finally come to a decision. I plan to spend George W's rebate check before I even get it. If you would like to see what I have picked out for the baby's room links are below. Baby bedding should be here in about three weeks, furniture in about 3 months(hmmm, I don't get it).

Baby Facts:

Week 18
  • Prints formed on both the fingers and the toes.
  • The ears moved to their final position
  • The eyes now point forward instead of to the side

Week 19

  • Lanugo, temporary downy hair, has formed on the head on body along with the yucky white slime(vernix) that will be present at birth

Week 20

  • Eyebrows have grown in, let's hope that continues to be plural
  • Baby sleeps and wakes in a pattern similar to the schedule he will maintain once he is born(he really likes to kick me at MY bed time, not a good sign)
Week 21
  • The amniotic fluid, which is replaced every three hours, gives the baby the opportunity to practice moving all of his body parts as well as something to practice swallowing and digesting
  • Baby looks like a miniature newborn, he will begin to practice sucking on a finger or a thumb, which we witnessed during our ultrasound

Well....he's a Wilson after all

We went for our ultrasound this morning and we were able to determine that we will be welcoming a little boy into our family in July. We were both convinced we were having a girl given family history, so we were shocked it was actually a BOY! Everyone always asked if we were pulling for a boy or a girl...we wanted a baby, but we are glad we finally know what we are expecting and can start getting things ready. Baby's estimated weight was 16oz with a due date of 7/5. I am sure this is enough excitement for one blog, so I will post my belly photo some time this weekend. Oh, click on baby's picture to see more photos.

Baby Kicks

I started to feel the baby moving around last Thursday. I was a little surprised since it was only week 18, but Dr. K said I might feel it before the 20 week mark since I was petite. I guess she was right. It should be just a few more weeks until Jason will be able to feel the movement on the outside. Next trip to the Dr. will be Thursday, so I will save my updates for then.

Cousin Madison Arrives

Jason's sister Stefanie and her husband Ryan welcomed their first baby, Madison Elizabeth Peach. She arrived around 4:30am on Friday, January 25th, happy and healthy. She is a petite little princess, weighing only 6lbs and 15oz. We were able to drive down early Friday afternoon so that we could meet her. Jason had trouble putting her down, you will understand why after you look at her pics below.

We have an audible heartbeat

I went to the Dr. on Thursday. We listened to the baby's heartbeat for the first time. Dr. says it sounds normal and was beating between 160-170 beats per minute while we were listening. Dr. seems to think baby may have been doing some cardio, maybe he/she will be an athlete like daddy ;-) Other than that, the visit was pretty uneventful. I got some paperwork to get my blood drawn again next week. This time they are running a test to check for our risk of Down Syndrome. Some computer geek wrote a program that takes some of the measurements from my blood along with my age and spits out a risk. What would we do without computer geeks? If our risk is high they will pay special attention during our ultrasound next month. Since the office was slow, I got all of the rest of my appointments scheduled. They are all on the same day of the week at the same time, which makes it easy for newly forgetful Amy. Since they are all on Thursday, I will have to skip out of my weekly team meeting early. About a year ago, that would have been a huge blessing, but I actually enjoy my team meetings on my new team.

We are still awaiting the arrival of Baby Madison. This week's Dr. visit showed some progression, almost 2 centimeters. Thank goodness she decided to wait...Mommy and Daddy needed those extra weeks to get Madison's new room ready in her new house. I think Vicki has been working her magic with the decorations, we can't wait to see it.

Another year has come and gone...but 2008 is bound to be great

As with everyone, we spent the last week running around doing Holiday things, so here is a recap of the excitement.

  • We saw a wonderful performance of Wicked at the Fox with some of our neighbors
  • Ate at Margaritas and visited the Shrine for my sister Jo's Birthday. We were glad her and Chandler were here from Los Angeles. Happy 3?st, Jo. ;-)
  • I caught a wicked respiratory infection and took a trip to Urgent Care and to see my Dr.
  • We were entertained with my nieces Nina & Gini opening their gifts on Christmas morning and then spent the day with my family and friends
  • Our Boston Terrier Guinness stole a bag of dinner rolls that I made for Christmas Eve while we were gone on Christmas Day. He very cleverly hid them in unusual places throughout the house and then would go back for a snack now and then. There is nothing like crumby dog beds, sofa cracks, Christmas tree skirts, and baskets of clean laundry. Some would get angry, but we of course found it to be hilarious.
  • Jason could not wait to use his new Christmas toy(finish nailer), so I got the real wood shelves in my pantry I have been dreaming of.
  • We had Fish and Chips at Maggie O's(our favorite pre-game watering hole) for Jason's birthday, followed by a disappointing loss by the Blues to the Sharks.
  • Baby got a new closet organizer and new bi-fold closet doors....Jason's handywork again
  • Hannah & Julie stopped by my office and took me out to lunch on New Year's Eve
  • Baby Madison tried twice to make her debut, but Dr. said its too early and sent Stefanie home
  • We FINALLY made it to the neighborhood New Year's Eve party at the Derek & Teresa's house, right across the street. We want to congratulate Teresa for making it past midnight for the first time in 4 years. We had a great time and are truly blessed to have such kind and hilarious neighbors.

Well, with all of the excitement I nearly forgot the most important piece of information....

Hello 2nd trimester...

Goodbye vomiting, baby induced coma and messy house(at least for a few months)

Aside from the respiratory illness, I have been feeling great. I have been able to keep up with my errands and I am having the urge to do a little shopping for the baby. Jason was actually the first to break down, he found an adorable Christmas sleeper at Children's Place on one of his after work trips to the Mills. Jason working right next to the Mills does have its advantages.

Baby Development

  • Baby will be born with 300 bones, some will fuse together to produce a total of 206 bones in adulthood
  • Vocal cords have been fully formed, so if sound travelled through fluid we could hear baby crying. Thank goodness it only travels through air.
  • All 20 teeth have made their debut in the baby's gums
  • Baby is starting to practice breathing, it will inhale and exhale amniotic fluid to properly form the air sacs in the lungs
  • Weight and Height have increased dramatically over the last month, estimated at 3 inches long and 20 oz in weight that's triple length and 50 times in weight

Next Thursday is another trip to the Dr, so more reports to follow. In the mean time, here is another photo of more of me. 5 pounds and 5.5 inches to the waistline!
